Sip On This: Chapter One – The One Where She Opens a Business

I am SO excited to welcome you to the very first blog post for SereniTea Boutique! Our blog series is called Sip On This, and for this first chapter, I thought I’d give you the tea on who I am, a little about SereniTea Boutique, and what you can expect from the blog.

First, the about me – I’m a Lee’s Summit resident, happily married to my amazing husband, Eric, and we are also very proud to hold the titles Aunt and Uncle to our 5 nieces and 3 nephews. We have three very spoiled four-legged family members, too. When you stop by the shop, I’m sure you are going to hear stories about all of the above!

My professional background is in corporate IT and operational risk. Life pivoted, as life likes to do, and I spent several years helping care for my parents through the end of their lives.

In this season of my life, I’m finding a lot of joy in being a small business owner and building something that allows me to be creative, connect with people, and be part of my community.

So, what is SereniTea Boutique?

We are your Lee’s Summit tea shop — with a whole lot more than tea! We carry over 100 varieties of loose leaf tea, a boutique featuring products from local makers and small businesses, and we have a full essential oil bar.

We share our space with The Paperback Bakery. Yes, that’s right – we are a tea shop, boutique, AND bakery all in one! Whitney offers a full-service bakery with fresh-baked treats and custom orders. We also have an indoor seating area called the Book Nook, where we host book clubs, pop-up’s with local artists and makers, local author book signings, and other events. With cozy seating, WI-Fi, and phone chargers, it’s a great place to relax with a tea or coffee and a pastry.

Now, about Sip On This.

There are so many conversations that happen across the counter every day — about tea, essential oils, products in the boutique, other small businesses and sometimes just life. Sip On This gives me a chance to continue some of those conversations and get into some of the things we don’t always have time to talk about at the shop.

I’m planning to post twice a month. We’ll definitely talk tea — where some of our teas come from, why I chose the companies and varieties I carry, different types of tea and some of the interesting properties behind them. We’ll talk about the essential oil bar, our signature blends and the different oils I use. I also want to share more about the products we carry, the local makers and small businesses we support, and some of the everyday adventures that come along with owning a small business.

I hope the Sip On This blog gives us the chance to continue some of our shop conversations, go behind the scenes, and take a deeper dive into some of the things you see around the shop.

I think this is a good place to wrap up Chapter One!

Next time, I’m going to give you the tea on the tea — how I choose the brands and varieties I carry, where they come from, and why those things matter to me.

Welcome to Sip On This. I’m glad you’re here!
